I watched “Don Jon” yesterday and it is definitely one of the best films of 2013. Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut is a audacious and moving film about the affects of pornography on its viewer. “Don Jon” stars Gordon-Levitt as the title character who is a womanizer with an addiction to online pornography. One night he meets Barbara (Scarlett Johansson) at a nightclub and her emphasis on taking things slow prove to be a challenge that Jon undertakes to hilarious depths while also coming to terms with his addiction to pornography.

Gordon-Levitt does a remarkable job with his subject matter. He does not condemn nor showcase support for pornography but instead shows one man’s conflicting relationship with it. Levitt also has a unique directing style especially with a variety of shots that enlarge various scenes of pornographic movie scenes. There are also beautiful shots of Jon and Esther (Julianne Moore) in New York with there the sunlight envelopes the two characters. Levitt has proven himself as a versatile actor and with this humorous but thoughtful film he is on his way to an interesting directorial career.
