Alt-country band Lucero has become one of my favorite bands. Their songs mix raucous fun with heartfelt pining folk songs. Vocalist/guitarist Ben Nichols is able to switch from a fun-loving party starter to a heart-on-his-sleeve poet. One example of Nichols’ emotional intensity is the song “Union Pacific Line” which has Nichols’ singing about departing from a lover while longing to stay. Check it out.
Tweet “Groovy Tony” is the newest song from Schoolboy Q’s still untitled forthcoming album. The song features a dark and hard-hitting beat that Q raps over in an aggressive gangsta rap style. It is one of his best songs to date and hopefully showcases a great album to come. Check it out above.
