PUP: If This Tour Doesn’t Kill You & DVP (live)

PUP has had a standout two years after the release of their debut album. The band plays fast and loud punk rock that is a breath of fresh air in today’s repetitive styles. The Canadian band released their second album “The Dream Is Over” and it surpasses its predecessor as the band has matured.

“If This Tour Doesn’t Kill You” is a hilarious song with its funny lyrics and features a stellar chord transitions. “DVP” is pure punk rock with its intense speed and brash sound. Check it out above.

Fabolous: For The Summer

As the weather finally begins to feel like summer it is only fitting that I post this Fabolous track. Fabolous has always been one of my favorite rappers especially on mixtapes and freestyles. His albums always seem sub par to his mixtapes where he is truly in his lane.

“For the Summer” features an acoustic guitar riff with a beat that has Fabolous killin’ the track with his rhymes. Check it out above.

The National: Peggy- O (live)

The National performed a cover version of “Peggy-O” for “CBS This Morning” on Saturday. The band does a wonderful rendition in their melancholic style. Check it out above.

PartyNextDoor – Girl From Oakland

PartyNextDoor has been continually releasing good music and seems ready to have a breakout year. His next album is set to drop soon and the amount of attention he has been getting in the news is only helping the hype.

“Girl from Oakland” features an atmospheric beat with PartyNextDoor’s ethereal vocals. Check it out above.

Schoolboy Q – Groovy Tony

“Groovy Tony” is the newest song from Schoolboy Q’s still untitled forthcoming album. The song features a dark and hard-hitting beat that Q raps over in an aggressive gangsta rap style. It is one of his best songs to date and hopefully showcases a great album to come. Check it out above.

The National – Mistaken For Strangers

I have been re-listening to The National’s discography the past few days and I still consider them my favorite indie rock band. As melancholy and somber as their sound may be it is also quite absorbing and mesmerizing. Vocalist Matt Berninger’s voice digs right into your soul and stays there.

“Mistaken For Strangers” is one of The National’s best songs with its complex lyrics and excellent guitar work. Check it out above.

Minor Victories: Breaking My Light

Minor Victories is a supergroup featuring Rachel Goswell of Slowdive, and Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai and Justin Lockey of Editors. The group is releasing their debut new album this year and “Breaking My Light” is track from that record. It features Goswell’s ethereal vocals and a shoegaze sound. Check it out above.

Arab Strap- Cherubs

The Scottish band Arab Strap have been in my “to listen to” playlist for quite a while now. I remember in the early 2000’s how much attention they were getting in relationship to other bands like Belle & Sebastian and Franz Ferdinand. I am slowly going through their discography and loving their music.

“Cherubs” has a downbeat melancholy sound to it with its dance beat and guitar riff. Vocalist Aidan Moffat’s baritone voice whispers over the track. Check it out above.

PartyNextDoor- Break From Toronto

I am a recent listener to PartyNextDoor. I have heard his name come up constantly when Drake is mentioned and decided to check out his music. His self-titled EP is quite good with its down tempo sound and mix of electronica with hip hop. “Break From Toronto” is one of the best songs on the record with its vocal samples and stuttering hi-hats. Check it out above.
