Album Spotlight: Daryl Donald – Solitude

Dary Donald’s debut album Solitude is a warm and vibrant instrumental release. It features some of the most chill beats that are reminiscent of Mello Music Group‘s catalog. There are elements of jazz and soul samples that really displays a versatile mix of influences. The album opens up with “Odessa” that really establishes the tone of it, with its easygoing sound and vocal samples. There are many standout tracks on the album including “Tender,” “Nothing,” and “Still Life.” The former track has a laid back sound that is driven by stuttering hi-hats and a vocal sample that shouts about moving your feet to the music. “Nothing” reminds me of a 90’s era beat that you instantly evokes a feeling of the prominent hip-hop hip hop scene. “Still Life” is my favorite track from the record and has a more somber feel to it with its soft piano keys and quiet drumbeat.

The album is a fantastic debut from a producer who has his ears glued to what music genres blend well together. Check out the album on Daryl Donald’s Bandcamp page: https://daryldonald1993.bandcamp.com/album/solitude
